Advanced Mac users may need to allow a third option, which is to open and allow apps downloaded from anywhere on Catalina macOS, macOS Sierra, macOS High Sierra, and macOS Mojave. To be clear, the “Download apps from anywhere” option is hidden by default in Gatekeeper for Sierra macOS. OS X improves download validation by providing file quarantine in applications that download files from the Internet. This means that downloads are checked for safety (known malware) when you try to open them. You can check an app (or any file) in quarantine using terminal. It's literally an extended file system attribute. The safest approach is to look for a later version of the app from the Mac App Store or look for an alternative app. To override your security settings and open the app anyway: In the Finder, locate the app you want to open. Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu.
Gatekeeper, a feature that increases your security by limiting access to signed apps only, has received some notable changes in macOS Sierra. The option to allow unsigned apps is now hidden from view in Gatekeeper settings (you can bring it back), a new path randomization feature prevents repackaging attacks and apps distributed outside the Mac.
Back in 1999, Steve Jobs showed off the new Finder in Mac OS X. It ran in single-application mode, meaning that when you switch from one app to another the first app would be automatically minimized.
Almost 18 years later, this feature is still pretty useful, especially if you want/need to maximize productivity while working in a specific app and quickly remove all distractions.
You don’t need to install any third party apps because the feature is still built-in, but it’s not activated.
Jump over the break to learn how to enable single-application mode in macOS Sierra.
1. Open Terminal
2. Type in: defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool true;killall Dock
3. Press return ( enter )
Reverse the process
1. Open terminal
2. Type in: defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool no;killall Dock
3. Press return ( enter )
For advanced users: you can kinda automate this process with AppleScript. Here’s a basic layout of how to do it with AppleScript.
1. Create a new folder on your desktop called “Single App” ( or whatever you want )
2. Open AppleScript Editor
3. Go to preferences and check “Show Script menu in menu bar” and uncheck “Show Computer script”
4. Open an AppleScript file and type in:
tell application “Terminal”
do script “defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool true;killall Dock”
end tell
4.1 Save the file as “single-app-ON.scpt” in the folder created at step 1. https://brownmusic758.weebly.com/blog/photo-text-editor-app-mac.
5. Open a new blank AppleScript file and type in:
tell application “Terminal”
do script “defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool no;killall Dock”
end tell
5.1 Save file as “single-app-OFF.scpt” in the folder created at step 1.
6. Move the folder with the two script files from your Desktop to /Users/YourUser/Library/Scripts/
7. Now you can turn this feature On/Off on demand from your Menu Bar
Split View lets you use two apps on the Mac screen at the same time. Both windows occupy two sides of the screen and make it easy to multitask. The steps for this slightly differ in macOS Catalina and above as compared to old versions. In this complete guide, let me show you how to enter Split Screen mode, how to use it, how to exit it, and more. My app won't open on my mac sync.
Note: The following steps to enable and use Split View works on all MacBook Pro, Air, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and other Macs that run OS X El Capitan or later.

How to Use Window Snapping on Mac
https://brownmusic758.weebly.com/blog/hp-smart-app-mac. Window Snapping lets you place apps side by side without entering Split View. As a result, this keeps the top menu bar and Dock visible.
To use effortless Window Snapping, make sure your Mac runs macOS Catalina or above. Place the pointer on the green full-screen button. Next, press the option key. Finally, choose Move Window to Left Side of Screen or Move Window to Right Side of Screen.
Repeat this for other app window. Now both windows take half the screen. Dock and menu bar are also visible.
On earlier Macs, you can do this manually by placing the pointer on the edge of a window and resizing it.
If you want even better controls than what macOS offers, try third-party tools like Magnet.
Wrapping Up…
This is almost all that you need to know to get started with Split View on Mac. In several situations, like making reports, writing articles, or copying media from one drive to another, using two Mac apps side by side becomes handy.
You can also enjoy Split Screen on iPad Air 2 and above. Since iPhone screen sizes are also getting bigger with each version, it would be interesting to use two or more apps at a time (like Android phones)! As of now, you are limited to Picture in Picture mode on iPhone running iOS 14!
